Ahead of the launch of more brilliantly-designed apartments at the new Copper Building at Lakeshore in a few weeks time, here are our top facts about the local area.
It’s the most exciting place in Bristol right now
There’s a tonne of regeneration in this part of the world right now, from our own efforts at Lakeshore right across to Hengrove Park where news broke this week of plans to create 1,500 homes, restaurants, shops, offices and an expansion of the City of Bristol College; a buzzing new community right up the road! And there are plans for a huge adventure playground – the first in the city for 30 years.
Everyone’s got a soft spot for Imperial Tobacco
The original Lakeshore building, which has already been transformed by Urban Splash into 286 awesome apartments, was once home to Imperial Tobacco. Employing thousands of people in the area from its opening in 1974, you’d be hard pushed to find someone locally without a connection to the company.
Lakeshore’s actually an architectural emblem on the national stage
The original building was designed by Chicago architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in the 1970s who drew on the works of modernist architect Mies van der Rohe, who designed the Lake Shore Drive Apartments in Chicago. The building’s reincarnation was undertaken by former Bristol mayor George Ferguson.
Massive Attack wrote a song about it
Bristolian legends Massive Attack produced many recognisable hits, but one of their lesser known tracks was dedicated to this corner of Bristol. “Hartcliffe Star” was released in 2010 – actually around the time we launched the original Lakeshore apartments for sale!
And… It’s a great place to invest in
According to Rightmove, prices in Hartcliffe have risen by 7% this year – 32% up since 2015, so it’s potentially a great area to get on the ladder.
