'It Will Never Work'

25 years of Urban Splash

Hosted by RIBA London

In their first 25 years, Urban Splash have won over 40 RIBA Awards. These awards cross the spectrum from Small Projects to the Stirling Prize Shortlist and cover refurbishment and new-build on residential, leisure and commercial schemes.

In this touring exhibition co-curated with RIBA North, we explore their award-winning projects in the context they were created and against the specific challenges and opportunities of the day.

We try to understand what, in the Urban Splash approach, connects all these projects, including award-winning buildings and cuts across the immediate context to form a consistent body of work and essential ethos.

Join us for the launch of ‘It Will Never Work’ in London, an unplanned trip from Madchester to Brexit via Easyjet and driverless cars, with a quick history of unorthodox thinking and a few buildings along the way.

Will It Ever Work

As part of our exhibition run at RIBA in London, join Jonathan Falkingham MBE at a panel to discuss 'Design and Innovation in Housing'

This panel event is chaired by RIBA president Ben Derbyshire and focuses on the role of design, innovation and placemaking in helping to overcome some, if not all the associated challenges of the 'Housing Crisis'. Urban Splash will be joined by an invited panel of contributors to talk about their experience of shaping neighbourhoods, housing quality and offsite manufacturing. The panel is made up of expert speakers from across the sector:

Nick Walkley — CEO Homes England
Mary Parsons — Places for People and Chair TCPA
Mark Farmer — author of the Farmer Review of UK Construction, ‘Modernise or Die’
Julia Park — Head of Housing Research at Levitt Bernstein

Tickets are available to buy now, with a special discount for RIBA friends and members.
