Bowling College roll into Lister Mills

23 February 2010

Award winning regeneration company Urban Splash has confirmed that it has completed a deal on 3,865 sq ft of space at Velvet Mill, part of Lister Mills in Bradford.

The deal has been signed with Bowling College Bradford who will operate their centre for English Speakers of Other Languages from the building as well as using it as a base for hosting adult literacy and numeracy classes. Peter Leech from the organisation explains: “As a forward thinking educational institution it’s imperative that we have accessible campuses across the City that make learning easier for our students. We’re delighted to have extended our locations and plan for this centre to be an integral campus with future plans to add computer classes, childcare and health and social care training. Lister Mills will certainly help grow the college, its an inspirational environment that both staff and students are delighted to be a part of.”

The College’s new space is in Velvet Mill, one of two buildings at Lister Mills to have been redeveloped by Urban Splash; the first being Silk Warehouse. Both textile mills, the buildings date back to the 1800s and boast traditional stunning architecture and original features which were retained by Urban Splash during the restoration process. Other tenants at the scheme include Manningham Community Centre and theatre company Mind The Gap.

Lynn Haime, Urban Splash associate director, said: “We are delighted to have completed this deal and welcomed another commercial tenant to Lister Mills. This well positioned, stunning building is home to a thriving community of commercial and residential occupiers, something we’re certain the college will complement greatly.”

Limited commercial space remains at the scheme in Silk Warehouse and at Velvet Mill. Anyone wishing to obtain further details can call 0333 666 0000 or visit ec2-63-34-210-119.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com/commercial.
