Customer profiles - Field, Park Hill

24 January 2024

When design consultancy Field decided to find a new base for their business after 15 years, they knew their new location had to reflect the creativity and innovative nature of their business. A place that offers inspiration where they could evolve and grow. Enter Park Hill in Sheffield – a match made in heaven as Field’s operations manager, Katie Daniel explains:

They say what’s meant for you won’t pass you by, and that’s exactly how we feel about our new business home at Park Hill, it’s really very special. Being a creative business, the space we work in is an integral part of our DNA, we need a space to inspire us, that reflects the brand we’ve built.

“It’s about having the right workspace to put you in the right mindset.”

This flagship building has been meticulously preserved, and we appreciate the care that has been taken to honour its heritage. Sheffield is our home, the Field team all feel a part of the community at Park Hill and the restoration deeply mattered to us, upholding the essence of what it once was whilst making it fit for a prosperous future. Now, Park Hill brings together businesses, families, students and professionals in a unique fusion of commercial and residential space. It feels as significant now as it ever has done.

Fusing purpose with location

The abundance of natural light from the large windows at the front and back of the building is a huge appeal and cemented our decision to do very little in terms of adapting the space, as we wanted to maximise this wonderful light and let the space organically flow. As Jonny Briggs, Field’s creative director adds “We appreciate brutalist architecture with simple architectural lines and we get inspired from this when we come to work. We care about what we do, to the extent that the building where we do it matters too. It’s about having the right workspace to put you in the right mindset.”

An adaptable workspace

The concrete structure also appealed - it leaves a blank, adaptable canvas - ideal for us to trial exhibition displays and moving images without being impacted by noisy interiors. It’s flexible, open and spacious, exactly what we need. We purposely chose long lasting materials to compliment the original features, with sustainability and usability at the heart of our decisions. We didn’t want to over complicate the space, it's important that our team have the freedom to bring their personalities into the space, we encourage trinkets and books that reflect who they are - it’s all part of the eclectic mix that makes us us!

We’ve kept the kitchen and meeting area downstairs - separate to where we work so we can host clients, family members and sometimes our pets when needed! It’s good to have a separate space to give us headspace - the mental wellbeing of our team is a top priority and this space allows us to provide everything we might need as well as huge potential to adapt and grow as our business evolves.

Being a part of Park Hill represents our commitment to sustainability and design being at the heart of what we do. We plan to be here for a very long time!
