Children in Need to broadcast from Royal William Yard

09 November 2016

The Royal William Yard in Plymouth will play host to the BBC Children in Need fundraising spectacular this year on November 18th.

There’ll be everything from market stalls to banner furling to Pudsey arriving by boat with Yard restaurants joining in the fun - in a bid to raise more money than ever before.

The BBC’s local radio and television stars, Spotlight’s Victoria Graham and BBC Radio Cornwall’s David White, will be broadcasting live throughout the day on November 18 as thousands of people join in the fundraising fun.

Entertainment will include thrilling, gravity defying wall runners performing in the Cooperage Factory, stilt walkers, a host of street performers and a night market overflowing with festive food and Christmas gifts.

“Do Your Thing” – this year for BBC Children in Need and learn to Salsa (the lesson’s on the BBC Spotlight Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/bbcsp... ) and come and join us on the night. BBC Spotlight, BBC Radio Cornwall and BBC Radio Devon will be broadcasting live from the Royal William Yard throughout the day with live inserts into the main BBC1 programme on the night.
And especially for BBC Children in Need this year there will be performances from the Bristol-based group The Invisible Circus, a collective of talented street performers from all over Europe.

Emily Handslip, director at award winning regeneration company Urban Splash - developers of the Yard - said: “We are delighted to be involved in one of the best events of the year and helping to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for BBC Children in Need in the process.

“We've got so much planned; from fabulous market stalls to exciting and thrilling performances for the whole family. It's going to be so much fun!

“Anyone coming to the Royal William Yard will also feel a part of the exciting national event as the BBC returns live to us throughout the night.
“It’s a wonderful cause and the atmosphere is always amazing as the generous people of the South West dig deep to change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people all over the UK.”

Last year BBC Children in Need raised its highest, on the night, total ever raising a staggering £37.1m, with the South West contributing £1,094,818.

The money will be used to help children and young people in the UK have a safe, happy and secure childhood, and allow them the chance to reach their potential.

And with amazing entertainment, market stalls and the chance to raise money for a great cause the Royal William Yard will provide a front row seat for the night’s star-studded event.
