Press release - 17 January 2019

Developers announce Help to Buy on new homes at Port Loop in Birmingham

17 January 2019

Joint venture partners Urban Splash and Places for People – who, alongside original landowners Birmingham City Council and the Canal & River Trust – are creating the new 1150-home Port Loop development in Birmingham, have announced that Help to Buy is now available on new homes at the scheme.

The Government-backed initiative helps buyers get on the ladder, and is available on the first phase of customisable, modular Houses; it sees the Government lend buyers up to 20% of the cost of a new-build home free of charge, meaning they need just 5% cash deposit and a 75% mortgage to make up the rest.

A dedicated event on Saturday 26th January from 11.30am – 4pm will help prospective buyers understand more about the scheme; a mortgage advisor will also be on hand to help customers discuss their financing options. The JV’s director of residential sales Guy Ackernley explains: “Help to Buy is a fantastic product which enables more people to secure their dream homes; we are delighted to launch the initiative for purchasers at Port Loop and look forward to welcoming customers to site to tell them more.”

The event is also an opportunity for buyers to learn about the customisable homes on offer in the first phase at Port Loop; each property in this part of the development is tailored to buyers’ design demands, with customers choosing the floorplans and layout of their home.

Guy continued: “Port Loop’s incredibly exciting for us all; not only are we embarking on the creation of Birmingham’s newest neighbourhood, but we are also bringing an entirely new housing typology to the city. These modular homes are unique and we’re putting all of the design, power and detail in our customers’ hands – resulting in them living in a bespoke, dream home which, thanks to Help to Buy, is now even more attainable.”

The modular Houses will each come with views of the canal, parking, a private garden, and comprise of 1000 sq ft of space over two storeys, or 1500 sq ft of space over three storeys. Customers will work with the onsite sales team to choose from a selection of floorplans which will allow them to determine whether the living and bedroom spaces are on the ground or upper floors, and whether the homes are open plan or with divided rooms. Non-load bearing walls also mean that the property can be changed again in the future, so whatever designs are determined now, can be adapted as each customer’s circumstances change – be that an office, nursery or dressing room.

Guy concluded: “The site will offer residents the opportunity to live in an environment where they can benefit fully from waterside living. Port Loop will be green by default, and its brand new one acre park set to complete in late spring 2019 – which will boast playful grass mounds plus a lawn on which residents and local community groups can host events, festivals and other permitted uses. Port Loop is genuinely offering a rich and liveable neighbourhood where sustainability is second nature.

“As well as embracing the benefits of waterside living, the homes at Port Loop are set to be really stunning yet highly practical modern properties. We cannot wait to bring more of these much anticipated homes to market, share the Help to Buy details on January 26th, and welcome our residents this year.”
