Exclusive yoga and shopping names come to Manchester

19 December 2008

Award winning property developer Urban Splash has welcomed some fun new tenants to Manchester.

In a month which has bucked the trend and seen the company secure a high level of deals, Urban Splash has signed up two new tenants to the Smithfield Buildings in the Northern Quarter.

The first major coup is the signing of Bikram Yoga. This unique form of the exercise originates from New York and sees participants take on some intense yoga in 105 degree heat. David Marshalsea explained: “Bikram Yoga is the fastest growing yoga in the world. We are the first studio in the North even though there's been a huge demand for it in Manchester.

We spent a lot of time, effort and money working on bringing Bikram to Manchester only to give up on our original premises due to delays and complications with the Landlords. We were delighted to find the right kind of venue in the Smithfield Building as it is such a great location. We have been doubly delighted to have Urban Splash as our Landlords, it has been a pleasure to work with a likeminded landlord who we know will support us as we grow to get involved.”

Joining Bikram is cool clothes company Flannels and the company has opened a clearance store in a 5,600 sq ft unit adjacent to that of Bikram. Flannels Managing Director, Neil Prosser said: “We have been looking for the right location for our next Flannels Clearance Store and the Smithfield Buildings is definitely that. We feel that our offering will complement the existing range of tenants in the area as well as attracting City Centre shoppers.”

The Flannels Clearance Store opened its doors to the public last weekend, meanwhile the first classes at Bikram Yoga begun on 14th December. The pair join existing tenants such as White Label Clothing and Six Pack Deli.

Speaking of the deals Lynn Haime, associate director at Urban Splash, said: “We seem to have bucked the trend across our Northern commercial portfolio this last month, and are delighted to have attracted a high calibre of tenants such as Flannels and Bikram Yoga. Both deals are important not only for Urban Splash but provide great additions to existing amenities in the Northern Quarter.”
