First apartment buildings proposed at Port Loop
A planning application, which includes proposals for the first apartments, has been submitted for the second phase of Port Loop in Birmingham. The application gives new details about the design and layout of two distinctive new apartment typologies â including Mansion House, a new typology for Birmingham which will be built off-site using cross laminated timber (CLT).
Mansion House apartments have been designed to give homeowners the ability to configure their own internal layout, creating a one or two bedroom apartment or an open plan loft-style home; all of which will benefit from spacious balconies.
Adam Willetts, Project Director for the Port Loop JV, explained: âThe intention of this planning application is to introduce brand new typologies to Port Loop, providing variety, interest and high quality homes whilst complementing and extending the established character of the site.
âWorking with ShedKM architects, the apartment typologies have been designed with internal layouts that provide flexible space for homeowners. Using sustainable MMC technology means we are able to improve both the quality and speed of delivery.â
The proposals also include a neighbourhood green and improvements to canal side spaces, helping deliver high quality public realm across Port Loop.
Adam continued: âWhen designing Port Loop, we started with a Manifesto; a set of âisland rulesâ that act as a blueprint for the development. One of these rules is âlive how you likeâ which looks to give our homeowners the control to create spaces that suit their lifestyle.â
The Mansion House element of the application will comprise 58 apartments across five six storey buildings; all of which will enjoy an enviable waterfront location overlooking the Worcester and Birmingham Canal.
Port Loop is being delivered by developers Urban Splash and Places for People, alongside the charity, Canal & River Trust, and Birmingham City Council. In total, Port Loop will deliver 1,150 new homes, in addition to new retail and leisure spaces. A new one acre park has already been delivered.
