Minister For Housing Brandon Lewis MP Visits Urban Splash's 'hoUSe'

25 June 2015

Award winning regeneration company Urban Splash has welcomed the Minister of State for Housing and Planning to New Islington – to see its new modular hoUSe.

Brandon Lewis MP, who has held the Government office for housing since summer 2014, visited the scheme to see the work that Urban Splash has been doing in transforming the area as well as being given a tour of the soon-to-be launched residential development hoUSe.

Urban Splash’s revolutionary new concept in housing typology allows customers to create bespoke designed, affordable homes; each customer can choose the size and distribution of space thanks to the modular construction methods used to create them.

Speaking at the visit, Housing Minister Brandon Lewis said: “Manchester has a rich history of innovation, so it's great to be here and see that spirit is alive and well with Urban Splash’s new modular housing concept. This Government has got Britain building, encouraging a new generation of house builders to pursue their ideas and come up with new and exciting ways to build homes.

"Urban Splash is a prime example of that and I want to see other new entrants follow their lead and break into the market. That way we can ensure a thriving industry that delivers the high-quality homes that hard-working people rightly deserve."

The Minister ‘s visit was led by Urban Splash Chairman Tom Bloxham MBE, who said: “hoUSe will bring a new ideology and way of thinking to the UK residential market and I am delighted that we have already sold 75% of the available homes even before we have officially launched. Providing affordability and good design is our main objective and I look forward to welcoming more people to this site – and other planned hoUSe sites – in the coming months.”

New Islington is one of Manchester’s most important regeneration areas. Urban Splash, working in partnership with Manchester City Council and the Homes and Communities Agency has helped to facilitate the creation of key infrastructure including a medical centre, the New Islington Free School, the New Islington Marina and Cotton Field Park. The developer has also created hundreds of homes there, completing the Will Alsop-designed Chips apartment building in 2010 and – working with Great Places Housing Group – a number of affordable homes with architects such as FAT, mae and de Metz Forbes Knight.

hoUSe will launch in Manchester in late 2015 with future homes planned at Springfield Lane on the banks of the River Irwell and in North Shields. Anyone wishing to register their interest should visit ec2-63-34-210-119.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com/residential/house.
