Smith’s Dock from the sky as exclusive drone footage released

19 February 2020

Aerial footage highlighting the dramatic transformation of the former Smith’s Dock shipyard in North Shields has been released to mark the completion of the first phase of the landmark residential scheme.

Joint venture partners, Places for People and Urban Splash, have unveiled the striking aerial film of Smith’s Dock to demonstrate the scale of the positive new changes at the historic site and on the thriving North Shields Fish Quay.

The short film offers a birds-eye view of the Smith’s Dock townhouses located on the Plateau section of the development and the instantly recognisable two waterfront apartment buildings known as the Smokehouses.

The footage shows the speed of progress at the former shipyard, with phase one now complete and plans advancing to grow the waterfront community and deliver the future elements of the Smith’s Dock masterplan.

Nigel Brewer, representing the JV commented: “This unique aerial perspective really highlights how the development is creating a new style of contemporary architecture at the Western end of North Shields Fish Quay.

“Since the construction of homes at Smith’s Dock began in 2016, the wider Fish Quay has undergone quite the dramatic transformation.Smith’s Dock opened up the Western end of the Quay just as award-winning eateries and distinctive pubs and bars have brought a new generation of visitors to enjoy the unique character of this riverside location.

“The coastal lifestyle at Smith’s Dock has always been a major draw but the positive changes on the Fish Quay have brought a new dimension to life on the waterfront for our hundreds of residents.

“We are now looking ahead to future phases of Smith’s Dock where we will once again employ contemporary architectural design in the creation of a community-led development, featuring residential properties, workspaces, retail areas and public parks.”

The first phase of sales at Smith’s Dock is now drawing to a close with a handful of two-bedroom apartments remaining for sale priced at a first-time buyer friendly £160,000 to £165,000. Only one three-bedroom duplex apartment now remains, priced at £270,000. All Town Houses at the development are now sold but prospective buyers can join a waiting list to be the first to hear about new properties as future phases are confirmed.
