Stakeholders visit completed Longlands scheme

01 February 2012

Award winning regeneration company Urban Splash marked the official completion of Longlands, a mixed-use scheme of 103 homes and 10,000 sq ft of workspace, in the heart of Stalybridge.

To mark the occasion, Urban Splash Chairman Tom Bloxham MBE invited key stakeholders to the scheme including; MP for Stalybridge and Hyde Jonathan Reynolds and Jake Berry MP who is Parliamentary private secretary to the housing minister Grant Shapps.

They were given tours of Longlands including the new Pattern House structure, landscaped gardens and the original part of the scheme, the 19th Century Longlands textile Mill, which was restored by Urban Splash in late 2008.

Discussing the milestone, Tom Bloxham said: “Longlands is a fantastic scheme which has helped change a rundown area of land into somewhere which is now home to a great mix of people. It’s a great example of using good design to make the most of an existing structure like Longlands Mill, but fusing it with contemporary and complementary architecture like Pattern House. Our next focus is finalising deals on commercial space at the scheme and we look forward to announcing details of these soon. The scheme has already won many awards and now its complete we hope it will win more. I believe this is a scheme Urban Splash, Stalybridge and indeed anywhere in the country will be extremely proud of.”

As well as pioneering good design at Longlands, Urban Splash has also maintained a commitment to creating a number of different ways to live at the scheme and some of the homes are available in the form of a new Government backed shared ownership scheme with which, prices start from just £50,000 for a 50% share.

The Longlands scheme stands in the centre of Stalybridge, close to the train station and town centre. Local MP for the area Jonathan Reynolds said: “It is fantastic to see progress like this in Stalybridge. Not only has this scheme made a visual impact in the local area, but it has created quality and affordable homes for people in the local area.”
