Two Urban Splash Projects awarded By RIBA

    20 May 2010

Award winning regeneration company Urban Splash has received two prestigious RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) regional awards for schemes in Manchester and Plymouth.

Chips, the Will Alsop designed mixed use building in Manchester received an award as did Mills Bakery, the Grade I listed building, which forms part of Royal William Yard in Plymouth Sound and was designed by architects Gillespie Yunnie. Both were commended for their high architectural standards and contribution to the local environment.

The awards mean that Urban Splash has now received 293 awards for its committment to architecture and regeneration, 46 of which have been awarded by the RIBA.

Urban Splash Chairman Tom Bloxham MBE added: "This is fantastic news. Both Chips and Royal William Yard are shining examples of how regeneration works. Chips is a striking and newly designed building which complements the growing community at New Islington, whilst Mills Bakery shows how disused buildings can be brought back to life."

The awards were presented at separate ceremonies in Bristol and Liverpool last night.
