Urban Splash reaches construction milestone at £15 million investment in Stalybridge

21 January 2011

Award winning regeneration company Urban Splash has hosted a ceremony to mark a significant construction milestone at Pattern House, the second building at its Longlands scheme in the centre of Stalybridge. The scheme was unlocked by a £4.9m investment from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

The ‘topping out’ ceremony marked the completion of the building’s mainframe and was attended by around 100 of the town’s business people, partners and dignitaries. The event included speeches from Urban Splash Chairman Tom Bloxham MBE and Carl Moore, Area Manager for Greater Manchester from the HCA. Jonathan Reynolds, MP for Stalybridge and Hyde and Councillor Kieran Quinn, Executive Leader, Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council also spoke to mark the occasion.

The milestone at Pattern House comes following the successful transformation of the first building at the scheme, Longlands Mill. The 19th century structure was completely refurbished two years ago taking it from a dangerous and derelict building to a mix of studio, one and two bedroom apartments as well as ground floor commercial space. Seventeen homes have been sold to date at the Mill and eighteen rented, with a handful of apartments still available to buy or rent.

Urban Splash Chairman Tom Bloxham MBE said: “This is a great scheme which is creating spacious, affordable apartments and wonderful commercial space that we hope will attract businesses to the centre of Stalybridge. The Build team has reached a significant milestone and we look forward to celebrating the next one when we complete the building in the spring.”

Deborah McLaughlin, Executive Director North West at the HCA added: “It is great to see Longlands Mill reach this important milestone. As well as providing investment in the Longlands scheme, the HCA has been supporting Urban Splash and Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council to help them deliver these vitally needed affordable homes for local people.”

The two Urban Splash buildings are nestled between the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and the banks of the River Tame in the centre of Stalybridge, with shops, bars, restaurants, and train station just a stone’s throw away and the Pennines on the other side.

Homes at Pattern House will be available from £99,950, or £50,000 for a 50% share through shared ownership initiative.

Guests were treated to builder’s tea and chip butties, a look round the show apartment in the Mill and a tour of the construction at Pattern House.
