Urban Splash, Saxton Celebrates National Allotment Week 8th – 12th August

There has been a marked increase in the demand for allotments across the UK as people want to be become more self sufficient. With around 1,500 people on waiting lists for allotments in Leeds Urban Splash is listening to what home owners in the region are looking for.

There are 97 allotments available. A number have been set aside for the existing community & neighbouring school and the remaining will be available for new residents. The allotments are raised beds which are easier to maintain than sprawling field-based allotments and more accessible to all users. Owners will also be able to take advantage of communal tools and sheds.

To mark National Allotment Week Urban Splash is planting some allotments with a selection of herbs and vegetables supplied by gardening company Rocket Garden to help inspire residents, and to demonstrate the possibilities available to them as they start out on their green-fingered journey.

Nicola Wallis added: “The second phase of Saxton is being occupied very quickly and we have already been busy moving residents in to their new homes. Alongside the allotments, the remaining apartments will be completed in the coming weeks along with the fantastic private residents’ gardens with BBQ areas. Homes at Saxton are available to buy outright or through shared ownership. There is also a rent option allowing tenants to save a deposit to buy the apartment later.”
