From squids to seagulls and everything in between...
I’m not sure how many other people can include the management of a giant squid in their day jobs… But I can! As the estates manager at Royal William Yard, it’s one of many weird and wonderful things that I do here at Plymouth’s best waterfront community.
I oversee core estate jobs, making sure that the Yard maintains its reputation as Plymouth’s best waterfront destination. There’s always the essential facilities management logistics to keep me busy and up to date with our commercial and residential tenants, from nesting seagulls causing water leaks to reuniting random lost property, to helping coordinate our many, many on site events.
Recently though, it has been a controversial squid that has commanded my attention. With threats to cut off its tentacles, this unmissable, temporary interactive artwork here at the Yard has caused a bit of a stir…but I’m pleased to confirm that our striking scarlet cephalopod has been granted permission to remain with us as a fun, installation to entertain families and visitors. The squid is once again taking pride of place on our lawn!
Now, fishy business aside, I’m back working alongside our amazing customer service coordinator, Akaysha Watts – together we’re continuing our task of ensuring that everyone who comes to live, work and play at the Yard – including giant squids – are happy here.
Why don’t you come and have a look around too? Our jam-packed summer calendar of exciting events is underway, including the Native Makers summer market, the Stand Up Paddle-boarding Breakfast Club and the ever popular Wimbledon on the Green, and I’m always on hand to support the team to help them make RWY continue to stand out as the place to be in Plymouth this summer. You’ll always find me ending the working week enjoying the vibe at our Yard Session.
