Summer festival feels at Park Hill

17 August 2022

It was a fun-filled affair at the Park Hill Residents Association’s 2022 Summer Party on a glorious Saturday afternoon on 6 August for current residents and those just moved into the latest block to be developed.

The upper lawn in Phase 1 was temporarily given a summer festival feel with a stage and deck chairs, welcoming resident and Leadmill-regular Daz Cadwallander as the headline act, alongside Leona Nørskov Jørgensen, Rumbi Tauro and Jackie Moonbather much to the crowd’s delight. Take a bow Otis Mensah for curating this talented group – they were incredible.

Celebrating all things Park Hill, and much more besides, the event’s stall holders included Sheffield-born artist Mick Rick, as well as Oscar Keen and Max Susbury from Flod UK, makers of plant pots from glass and plastic taken from the rivers around Sheffield, with the help from local charities and members of the community - and local Joanne Milo of JMP Creativity selling her craft wood in wood, cork, shells and pyrographics. Unofficial resident-artist Mandy Payne was also part of the stall line up, displaying her work inspired by the Brutalist architecture of Park Hill.

Colourful picnic blankets and bunting were scattered across the centre lawn in Phase 1, which was turned into nothing short of a children’s paradise with magic from Magick Enterprises - one of the best magic shops in the country – alongside balloon making, face painting, a bouncy castle and colouring as well as giant Connect 4, giant Snakes & Ladders, a giant walk on piano and buzz wire to help keep the whole family entrained.

Park Hill’s ever popular South Street Kitchen served guests a mouth-watering spread of falafel with hummus dips, cauliflower and chickpea fritters with red pepper salsa (they were divine…), mini beetroot and feta fritters & spiced red onion bhaji with mint yoghurt. Indian restaurant 5Tara from Duke Street, and close neighbour of Park Hill, also joined, offering party dwellers traditional North Indian cuisine, and friends from Dorothy Pax bar served the drinks from a traditional milk float (very apt..).

Over 250 people attended the party, enjoying an afternoon of meeting neighbours, shopping, eating, drinking, music and laughter – and Park Hill at its best. A huge thank you to Kay and all the PHRA team for organising an event to remember!
