30,000 Sq ft of deals for Urban Splash

10 February 2010

Award winning regeneration company Urban Splash has confirmed that it has completed deals on more than 30,000 sq ft of space across its commercial portfolio.

At Fort Dunlop in Birmingham the company has completed deals on 13,000 sq ft of office space; 9,800 sq ft to the Secretary of State and a further 1,000 sq ft to the specialist bike retailer, Specialized. Existing tenant and training company Elmfield has also extended its space at the building, taking a further 2,206 sq ft of space. The building is 98% let having been transformed by Urban Splash in 2006 from a disused tyre factory into a thriving mixed use community comprising offices, shops, bars and restaurants and has received 23 awards to date.

Emily Jones, associate director who looks after the Urban Splash commercial portfolio in the Midlands and South West said: “This is fantastic news. The Fort’s always been a great proposition for businesses in and around Birmingham and the new tenants will add to an exciting mix of tenants already there.”

Urban Splash has also completed a new deal with the University of Plymouth who has taken a further 5,700 sq ft of space at Mills Bakery – part of the Grade I listed Royal William Yard scheme in Plymouth. It means that the organisation now occupies 9,000 sq ft of space there. Emily continued: “It’s testament to the quality of our portfolio when companies such as Elmfield and the University of Plymouth continue to expand within the our schemes. We’re proud to offer this support and flexibility to our commercial occupiers.”

Meanwhile in Yorkshire, Bowling College has taken 6,300 sq ft of space at Lister Mills, another stunning listed building located in Bradford. The college will move its centre for English Speakers of Other Languages to the building as well as using it as a base for hosting adult literacy and numeracy classes.
A further two deals were secured at the Matchworks in Liverpool, where more than 4,000 sq ft of space has been let; 1,386 sq ft of space to fashion importers Four Trading – who has taken three office units in serviced office building Mersey House, as well as a further 2,585 sq ft of space to MW Internet Solutions. Their studio unit is within the Matchworks II building at the scheme.
