Press release - 10 February 2020

Factory-built homes go on sale at Port Loop, Birmingham

10 February 2020

A new phase of homes will be released for sale at Port Loop this weekend (Saturday 15 February), offering purchasers a unique opportunity to design their own homes. Joint venture partners, Places for People and Urban Splash, will launch a new phase of 28 Town Houses, each of which will be built offsite in a factory using modern methods of construction. On selected plots, only the size of the properties has been predetermined, with purchasers able to configure the internal floorplans to suit their own lifestyle. There will also be a selection of preconfigured homes available, ranging from two to five bedrooms.

Guy Ackernley, Head of Residential Sales for the Port Loop Joint Venture, said: “Only the external walls of Town House are load bearing, which means, internally, people can choose where to put their walls. This gives people the flexibility to decide how their house can work best for their lifestyle. There are over 70 different configurations available so our new homeowners really can design their perfect home.

“Once designed, the house is built in our factory and then craned onto site, ready for final decorations. As well as offering greater flexibility, this construction method helps minimise any defects and ensures a higher quality, and often quicker, build process.”

A new 43 acre neighbourhood in Birmingham, Places for People and Urban Splash have already delivered 40 modular-built homes at Port Loop, 90% of which are now sold, with 37 traditionally-built Brick Houses currently under construction. A one acre park has also been delivered, as has the new Ladywood Leisure Centre which is part of the overall Port Loop masterplan.

Guy continued: “Our Town Houses have already proven popular at Port Loop and, with more bespoke options available in this latest phase, I’m sure our new homes will also be a hit.”

All the new homes at Port Loop have easy access to the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, with Brindleyplace just a 15 minute walk away along the towpaths. Additionally, all homeowners will have access to an exclusive shared garden.

Guy said: “Port Loop is an important project for Birmingham and has been described as one of the most ambitious developments in the UK. We’re proud to be part of the regeneration of this area and it’s great to see this new development flourishing already.”

The new homes will be launched for sale between 11am and 6pm on Saturday 15th February at the Port Loop marketing suite. Prices for the new homes will start from £308,000, with Help to Buy, shared ownership and rental options also available. A mortgage advisor will be available to answer any questions on the day.

Port Loop is being delivered by developers Urban Splash and Places for People, alongside the charity, Canal & River Trust, and Birmingham City Council. In addition to the new homes, plans are currently being put in place to launch a new social and cultural hub in 100,000 sq ft of former industrial space at Port Loop.
