Press release - 04 July 2019

Next phase of Northstowe plans will be featured in a public exhibition next week

04 July 2019

Award winning regeneration company Urban Splash will host an exhibition on Tuesday 9th July to showcase its plans for a new residential development of 406 houses and apartments at Northstowe. This is the next phase of work – officially known as Phase 2a – to be brought forward in the growing new settlement near Longstanton, in partnership with Homes England.

The event will run from 2pm until 7pm, giving people in and around the local community a chance to find out more about the plans and to comment on the proposals ahead of an intended planning application this September.

The proposals include homes for sale, shared ownership, affordable rent and for later living and will be the first residential elements in the second phase of Northstowe which is being led by the Government’s housing agency Homes England, following on from the new education campus and infrastructure works currently under construction to the east of Rampton Drift.

If planning is successful, work is expected to start on site in spring 2020.Mark Latham of Urban Splash explained: “We are very excited about contributing to the growing neighbourhood at Northstowe and are looking forward to sharing our designs, hearing people’s thoughts and, in due course, commencing building work on this exciting new project.”

The development is being masterplanned by Proctor & Matthews Architects who are also designing a number of the homes, working alongside architects shedkm, with landscape design by Grant Associates, engineering by Ramboll and planning advice from Bidwells. All of the homes will be built using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), many of them made offsite to customer specifications in Urban Splash’s own factory in the East Midlands.

Mark continued: “We are planning to offer a number of Urban Splash’s ground-breaking new modular house typologies here at Northstowe providing a range of different sizes and options for adaptable layouts. This approach will help us deliver true mixed tenure and homes for a range of people who want to live here.

“We have already successfully delivered our modular homes designed by shedkm on other sites in Manchester, Salford, North Shields and Birmingham – with many sold out and fully occupied – and we are looking forward to working with customers to do the same in Northstowe, and introducing some new types by Proctor & Matthews.”

Urban Splash was appointed by the Government’s housing agency Homes England as preferred developer at Northstowe Phase 2a in May this year; the site is one of the largest MMC sites in the country and strengthens Homes England’s commitment to modular as a means of increasing building productivity.

The exhibition will be held at the community wing of the Pathfinder School Northstowe; members of the project team will be available to answer questions and there will be an opportunity for attendees to provide feedback on the masterplan. Anyone unable to attend can visit urbansplash.co.uk after the exhibition where an option to give digital feedback will be available. Further information can be found at nothstowe.com
