Urban Splash and Irvine Bay Regeneration Company unveil plans for the Bay

10 March 2009

Award winning regeneration company Urban Splash and Irvine Bay Regeneration Company will host an exhibition and consultation event to show new proposals for the future of Irvine Harbour.

The event will be held in Unit 2b Bridgegate Irvine and local people are invited to come along on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th March to give their feedback on the proposed scheme prior to the submission of a planning application later this year.

Urban Splash was selected as the lead developer for Irvine Harbour last year and has worked closely with the regeneration company since then to develop proposals for the site as well as commissioning studies in to flood risks and local ecology.

Patrick Sheridan of Urban Splash said: “These exciting proposals are for a low rise mixed use development based around a series of new streets, public squares and courtyard gardens. The new buildings will mostly be a mix of 2 and 3 storeys with a couple of taller 4 storey blocks located at important points on the site.

“One of the main ideas is to replicate the character of an old harbour town with tight weaving streets, a mix of surprising spaces and a range of different building types and forms.”

It is anticipated that 350 new houses and apartments will ultimately be delivered at the scheme, taking around six years to complete. This will be complimented with a more active quayside, new commercial units at ground level containing new cafes, restaurants, shops and offices.

Patrick Wiggins, Chief Executive, Irvine Bay Regeneration Company said: “We are delighted that Urban Splash is providing people with an opportunity to find out more about its plans for Irvine Harbourside. It is important to us that local people are well informed about the regeneration of the area.”

The outline design has been drawn up by Reiach and Hall architects from Edinburgh who recently won a number of awards for the new Pier Arts centre in Stromness.

The exhibition and consultation will run from 11am to 4.30pm on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th March and the developer would like to get feedback from as many people as possible.”
