Urban Splash FD joins the Prime Minister on Far East trade mission

30 July 2015

Award-winning regeneration company Urban Splash has joined Prime Minister David Cameron on a ‘northern powerhouse’ trade mission to the Far East.

The company’s finance director Julian Curnuck joined the delegation, meeting with government officials, investors and financial institutions in both Malaysia and Singapore. Its aim was to promote the role of Manchester and other northern cities in the UK economy as Julian explained: “I am honoured to have been invited by the DTI to join the Prime Minister on this prestigious trip which promotes the strength of the northern economy.

“I am particularly proud that the efforts of Urban Splash in regenerating so many cities and investing in projects around the country have been recognised and that we are joining other great North West businesses on this global political stage.

“Since 2007 we have worked hard to secure funding, establish multi-million JV partnerships with organisations such as the Pears Group and Places for People and I am delighted to have met so many more great people and businesses on this trip. Urban Splash is always open to talking to interesting organisations around the world and I hope that this trip leads to bolstered relationships which will benefit the northern region as a whole.”

Manchester’s interim mayor Tony Lloyd also joined the delegation and said: “Greater Manchester is the vital cornerstone of the northern powerhouse and one of the fastest growing economic regions in the world. Our message is that Greater Manchester and the north is a vital region - this is about investment, it’s about skills and it’s about jobs. It’s about growing the northern economy and Greater Manchester’s presence as an international city.”

The Prime Minister David Cameron added: “The government is committed to ensuring the UK’s northern regions play their part in rebalancing our economy. With so much untapped potential, I’m delighted to be part of this first northern powerhouse trade mission – the first of what I hope will be many.”

Business secretary Sajid Javid concluded: This mission – the first of its kind – will demonstrate the strength of the northern regions, which are home to some of the most innovative companies and institutions in the world.”
